Boulevard chalk up first win to keep alive hopes of staying up
Boulevard finally picked up their first win of the season in the Premier Division after edging fellow relegation contenders Young Men’s Social Club 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller at Police Field on Sunday.
Blazers, the away team, were forced to chase the game when Bluebirds took the lead in the 31st minute through Keedai Astwood’s own goal.
However, the home side’s celebrations were muted when Kyla Blyden brought the teams level six minutes later before striking again in the 42nd minute to put Blazers in front for the first time.
That one-goal advantage was short-lived as Angelo Matthews equalised to leave the sides deadlocked at 2-2 at half time.
The see-saw battle continued after the restart with Zeiko Lewis hitting the back of the net after hour to give Social Club the lead.
Blazers hit back two minutes later through a strike from Doreiko Walker to bring the teams level for the third time before Lewis grabbed his second of the game five minutes later to put Social Club back in front.
Any thoughts the Bluebirds might have had of coming away with their second straight league win were dashed when the visitors struck twice through Nico Smith in the 78th minute and Astwood in the 83rd minute.
After the victory Blazers remain bottom of the table with six points but are now just one point behind Social Club, who occupy the other spot in the relegation zone, and three behind Paget.
Elsewhere, Robin Hood edged St David’s 2-1 at PHC Field to stretch their lead in the First Division to two points over Somerset Trojans.
The home side led 2-0 on strikes from Keishen Bean in the 31st minute and Tokia Bean in the 74th minute before Aaron Paynter pulled one back for St David’s in the second minute of stoppage time.
Southampton Rangers and Wolves battled to an exciting 3-3 draw in another high-scoring affair at Southampton Oval.
The visitors were seemingly cruising to victory with a 3-0 advantage through two goals from Jared Douglas and a strike from Khari Sharrieff-Hayward.
However, Rangers fought back through two goals by Donte Brangman and one from Ellington Weldon Jr to earn a share of the spoils.
The remaining First Division contest featured Trojans’ title hopes take a hit after being held to a goalless draw against Somerset Eagles in a west end derby at Somerset Cricket Club.
