Kenni Thompson swaps shirts with Vivianne Miedema

Bermudian footballer Kenni Thompson got to swap shirts with one of the world’s best players at the weekend.

Thompson got her hands on the shirt of Manchester City and Netherlands forward Vivianne Miedema, who handed her the prize possession after Bournemouth’s Women’s FA Cup fourth round match against the English giants.

While the game did not have the best outcome for Bournemouth, who play two tiers below the Women’s Super League, as they lost 6-0 to City with Miedema scoring two goals in the second half.

Miedema is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in women’s football history. She is the all-time leading scorer in the Women’s Super League and scored 80 goals in 106 games for Arsenal before moving to Manchester City in 2024.

She has scored more goals at international level for the Netherlands than any other player, man or woman, won the PFA women’s player of the year in 2019 and was shortlisted for the women’s Ballon d’Or in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

Despite the cup defeat, Thompson has helped Bournemouth to the top of National League South at the halfway stage of the season with 30 points from 12 games. They have a game in hand over second-place Watford, who have 29 points, with Plymouth Argyle third on 27.

Only the champions are guaranteed promotion to Women’s Super League 2, just one level below the top tier of English football.
