Boulevard v X-Roads match abandoned at half time

Heavy rain and driving winds caused game to be cancelled (File photograph by Blaire Simmons)

The Premier Division match between Boulevard and X-Roads was abandoned at half time on Saturday.

After the first 45 minutes at Bernard Park was played in driving rain and heavy winds, referee Tashun Simons called the game off after deeming the goalmouth areas unplayable and a threat to the safety of players and officials.

X-Roads had taken a 1-0 lead into the interval thanks to a goal from Samuel McKittrick but the match will now be replayed at a later date.

The inclement weather, which is expected to last for much of the weekend, could pose a threat to the matches being played on Sunday, with Wellington Oval, Police Field and White Hill Field scheduled to host Premier and first Division matches.

The Bermuda Union of Teachers 5K, which was due to take place on Sunday morning, has been postponed, while this week’s harness racing meeting was cancelled on Saturday, with organisers hoping it can be held at 2pm on Sunday.
