Young footballers train at home of England teams
Three Bermudian footballers got an opportunity to train at St George's Park, the home of England teams.
Chedi Smith, Harlem Bean-Fox and Kennahz Fray, who are all enrolled at Future Pro Academy in Coventry, spent hours at the world-class training facility. They were under the guidance of English Premier League and English Football League academy coaches.
“Our students were at St George’s Park for five to six hours, working with Premier League and English Football League academy coaches,” said Callum Maspers, the Future Pro digital marketer.
According to Demir Vavan, the Future Pro founder and managing director, the three Bermudians were complimented by some of the coaches.
“The boys were working with Ben Futcher, the England men's under-20 coach. We had EFL and Premier League academies in attendance from Bradford, Bournemouth, Norwich and Sheffield United.
“National League South Shields manager Ian Watson was very complimentary of the boys.”
In December, Fray and Bean-Fox attended trials at EFL Championship side Blackburn Rovers, where they trained with the club’s under-18 and under-21 squads.
After winning the Friendship Trophy with Dandy Town on New Year’s Day, Fray went back for further assessment at Brockhall Training Village. The 17-year-old scored for Blackburn’s under-21s in their strong performance against Accrington Stanley.
Bean-Fox was unable to return to Blackburn due to a hamstring injury, suffered while in Premier Division action for PHC against X-Roads, which forced him to be withdrawn at half-time.
