Nathan Rego at double as Eagles boost promotion hopes
Somerset Eagles kept their promotion hopes alive with a comfortable 3-1 win over Southampton Rangers at a wet and windy Southampton Oval on Saturday.
The away side made a dream start to the First Division make-up match after Matthew Groves broke the deadlock in the tenth minute.
Rego then all but secured the points after hitting the back of the net in the 28th and 36th minutes to leave his team in full control at the break.
Rangers made a promising start to the second half after Daischon Chin pulled one back but that was as good as it got for Quincy Hunt’s team as the away side held on for the win.
The result meant Shield holders Eagles leapfrog a resurgent Wolves into third spot in the First Division standings, five points behind west end rivals Somerset Trojans, who occupy the second and final promotion spot.
Robin Hood, who suffered a 3-2 defeat against Wolves in their previous outing, top the table by two points over fellow title contenders Trojans.
