On form, few would bet against Devonshire Colts coming away with the points from their Premier Division match against struggling Paget Lions at Police Field today.

Yet, while his team are riding high and remain thick in the hunt for league honours, Colts coach Ray Jones isn’t taking anything for granted against a Paget side that find themselves in the relegation zone.

“This will be a tricky match tomorrow. Paget need points and they have a good fighting spirit, so they cannot be underestimated because of their position,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“Their squad is far better than their league position. Also, since Antwan Russell has been at the helm we have not beaten them, so we will not be taking anything for granted.”

The match is the first meeting between the teams in all competitions this season, with their initial league fixture at Southampton Oval last November being cancelled after a group of about five men tried to assault a Paget player.

In the aftermath of the incident Paget had their home games moved to White Hill Field, which they also share with Premier Division rivals Dandy Town and First Division landlords Somerset Eagles.

There is also one First Division match taking place today, featuring Southampton Rangers and visiting league leaders Robin Hood at Southampton Oval.

Hood top the table by two points over fellow title and promotion hopefuls Somerset Trojans, while Rangers’ hopes of returning to the top tier this season have been dashed.

League action continues tomorrow with the Premier Division fixtures between sixth -place X-Roads Warriors and seventh-place St George’s Colts at Lord’s, St David’s and eighth-place Young Men’s Social Club and title hopefuls PHC Zebras at Police Field.

St George’s and PHC are both coming off victories in the FA Cup quarter-finals last time out, while X-Roads and Bluebirds are hoping to get back to winning ways and distance themselves from the relegation zone.

Elsewhere in First Division, Trojans are away to second from bottom St David’s Warriors at Lord’s, while bottom side Vasco da Gama host a rejuvenated Wolves at Police Field.
