Nahki Wells fires Luton into cup final at Wembley

Wells taps in at the far post to equalise for Luton

Nahki Wells is on his way to Wembley.

The Bermudian forward scored the equaliser for Luton Town before his side went on to beat Northampton Town 2-1 in the EFL Trophy semi-final.

The prize for victory is a game against Stockport County at Wembley on April 12 and Wells is no stranger to the iconic stadium after scoring for Bradford City in the League Two Play-off Final in 2013.

Wells tapped in at the far post in the 60th minute to cancel out Kyle MacAdams’s strike for Northampton in the seventeenth minute.

Luton booked their place in the final thanks to Liam Walsh’s 82nd minute strike.

Wells’s side made the most of a second opportunity in the competition after they were originally knocked out by lower-division Swindon Town. However, they were thrown out of the competition after an investigation revealed that they had fielded an ineligible player and Luton were reinstated by EFL Trophy organisers.

While Luton have disappointed in League One this season, their supporters now have a trip to Wembley to look forward to and head coach Jack Wilshere was philosophical after the game.

“It hasn’t always gone well at times and we have to be better and more consistent,” he said.

“The players deserve this moment, to go to Wembley, to take their families to Wembley to watch them play there.

“But of course we want to win and we’ll work towards that and look to do that when the time comes but we’ll enjoy this moment as we’ve had some difficult ones in the last few weeks.
