Devonshire Colts and PHC square off at Police Field tomorrow (3pm) in what could prove to be a watershed moment for the Premier Division title race.

Colts, with a game in hand over their rivals, head into the fixture third on the table with 31 points. They trail PHC by a point, but by the time the two teams meet, Dandy Town might have further stretched their lead at the top as they face bottom side Boulevard at White Hill Field today (3pm).

“It’s a turning point of whether we're still in it or out of it,” Jones told The Royal Gazette.

“Certainly a massive game, probably the biggest game of the season to date in reference to the league campaign.

“If it doesn’t go our way, mathematically we're still in, but realistically we will probably be out.

“Dandy Town have been very consistent, so it would take them to drop some points. With the games that are remaining I’m not sure whether that will happen.

“So whoever doesn’t get the three points on Sunday, realistically the campaign is pretty much over as far as the league title is concerned.

“We had good numbers out at training this week and we’re just looking forward to the match. If you're a top footballer these are the games you want to be playing and you need the boys out for it.”

PHC defeated Colts 2-0 in November, a loss Jones attributed to inactivity as his side had not played much football that month after their match against Paget was postponed and remains still to be played.

“When we played them at PHC we hadn’t played a game for quite some time and we were probably a bit rusty,” the Colts coach said.

“That was the week before our game against Paget was abandoned, so we hadn’t really had a game for a while.

“I think we were a bit off the pace, but this time, having pretty much been in a flow for a couple of weeks of regular football, I’m hoping that we’re up to the tempo.”

PHC have coach Cecoy Robinson back from national duty, with captain Daren Usher declaring that they were ready for the challenge posed by Colts.

“Everyone is buzzing ahead of the game,” Usher said.

“Colts have been doing well the last few seasons and it’s showing by the position they are in now. We know it’s going to be a difficult match and we are ready for it.

“We just have to go out there and put our best foot forward and get the result that keeps us in the title race.

“PHC has always had that title-winning mentality so we are always going to fight until we can’t any more. We just have to take it one game at a time and may the chips fall in our favour.”

Despite their opponents losing 7-1 to Devonshire Cougars on Wednesday, Town coach Jarreau Hayward is not under-estimating Boulevard.

“Boulevard versus Town is always a tight football rivalry,” Hayward said.

“I think where the Blazers are right now doesn’t reflect the quality of the football that they play. We’ll have to be at our best and try to come out with three points.

“I saw them play Cougars the other night and Boulevard didn’t deserve that scoreline. I think they play really good football, just a little bit discouraged.

“I completely expect it to be a difficult game as it always is versus them. Right now we’re only looking to get three points versus the Blazers, then we’ll focus on X-Roads directly after that.

“Boulevard have a lot of dangerous players. They have some experience in the ranks and they have a lot of pride.

“We know they’re going to show up and we need to do the same, execute the game plan and treat it like every other game we’ve treated this year.”

In another match scheduled for today, St George’s Colts square off with North Village. It will be an opportunity for the home team to climb up the table, while Village have a chance to solidify their position in the top four.

X-Roads coach Farid El Karfa declared the encounter with second from bottom Young Men’s Social Club at Lord’s, St David’s tomorrow, as crucial to both sides.

“This match is important for us and Social Club,” El Karfa said.

“We are trying to stay in a comfortable position on the table and Social Club are trying to move out of relegation. The better team on the day will grab the three points.”

Social Club coach Michael Smith has vowed to fight to the finish in their quest to avoid relegation.

“We’re approaching this match like we would approach any other,” Smith said.

“We don’t want to put any unwanted pressure on the players. We’re all aware of the situation that we’re in and we just have to go out there and put the performance together.

“Last week was a heartbreaker. It was a game that we should have won. After we picked ourselves up from that defeat, we’re going to fight all the way to the end.

“We’re aware of the situation as far as points are concerned, but all we can control is ourselves. We’re going to try to go out and win these last games, we’ll take them one at a time and then on the last day of the season, we’ll see where we are.”

Cougars head into their encounter with Paget in high spirits after defeating Boulevard to bring an end to their five-match winless streak.
