East and West combine for feast of all-star football
Hundreds of talented players and their families turned out in force for the Bermuda School Sport’s Federations all-star matches on Friday.
At the rescheduled event, which was postponed earlier this year as a result of poor weather, the early matches went the way of the teams from the East.
The first match featuring primary school girls was won 6-1 by the East, with Somersfield Academy’s Molly Morton leading the charge with a hat-trick. The east also got goals from Mount Saint Agnes’s Rhiannon Rushe, Francis Patton; s Amira Whitter and Somersfield’s Myla Desjardins.
The west goal was scored by Saltus Grammar School's Sofia Cooper. MVPs for the match were MSA’s Tamera Smith for the east and Warwick Academy’s Ava-Rose Richardson for the west
The east were victorious 2-1 in the middle school girls game. Melah Rutherford, of Whitney Institute, gave the east a 1-0 lead early in the first half. Sandys Secondary Middle School first year Zaya Cann-Berkley equalised for the west before a late own goal sealed the win for the east. Rutherford and Cann-Berkley were named MVPs for their respective teams
The tide turned in the Primary School boys match with the west winning 3-1. Saltus Grammar’s Declan O'Sullivan opened the scoring with a long-range free kick. Warwick Academy’s Kash Butterfield doubled the lead in the second half before West Pembroke student Karter Riley put the game out of reach with a third. Harrington Sound’s Maceo Hunt Woolridge added a late consolation goal for the east team.

The west continued their winning ways in the senior boys match with a hard earned 2-1 win.
Warwick Academy forward Jayden Smith opened the scoring for the west early in the first half. Berkeley’s Logan Viera doubled the lead before the break. A long-range effort from CedarBridge Academy forward Xave Smith gave the east a glimmer of hope but the west held on. Hard-working midfielders Amir Weller from Berkeley and Kydan Browne from Saltus earned MVP honours.
