Nathan Trott flawless for dominant Cardiff City
Nathan Trott produced another flawless display between the posts as Cardiff City got back to winning ways in style with an emphatic 4-0 demolition of Exeter City in the EFL League One at the weekend.
The Bermudian goalkeeper had a quiet afternoon at St James Park, called upon only to deny Bolton Wanderers loanee Mendes Gomes late in the second half as the away side scored four unanswered goals to snap a two-game winless streak and get their promotion bid back on track.
Exeter academy product Sonny Cox came closest to scoring for the home side with his shot from close range deflected off the crossbar.
The Bluebirds, who trail leaders Lincoln City by four points, prevailed on strikes from Rubin Colwill (2), Alex Robertson and substitute Callum Robinson.
The visitors also struck the woodwork with the subsequent rebound cleared off the line in a match they dominated throughout.
Trott has played an integral role in Cardiff’s bid to make an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship having kept 13 clean sheets and conceded 35 goals in 34 league appearances since joining the Welsh club on loan from Danish Superliga club Copenhagen at the beginning of the season.
Also getting back to winning ways in League One last Saturday was Nahki Wells’s Luton Town who edged Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 at Adams Park to snap a six-game winless streak and come away with their first victory on the road since last November.
Retaining his spot in Jack Wilshere’s starting eleven from the squad that played to a 1-1 stalemate away to Doncaster Rovers four days earlier, Wells went close with an effort inside the box before being replaced by Devante Cole in the 73rd minute.
Kal Naismith and Kasey Palmer were on target for the Hatters while substitute Junior Quitirna came off the bench to pull one back for Wycombe in second half stoppage time.
Luton are eleventh in the standings, five points adrift of the play-off positions heading down the final stretch of the 2025-26 season.
Trott and Wells are back in action on Tuesday with Cardiff hosting Wycombe at Cardiff City Stadium and Luton taking on Exeter before their own supporters at Kenilworth Road.
