Nia Christopher joins club in Iceland
Bermuda women’s football team striker Nia Christopher has signed for Icelandic club Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar (Gymnastics Association).
Christopher will play in the Icelandic Women's Premier Division when it starts on April 24. The forward’s move follows her departure from USL Super League side Fort Lauderdale United last month.
“Nia Raisa Christopher has signed a contract with the Gymnastics Association for the upcoming season,” the club announced on Tuesday.
Davíð Þór Viðarsson, the FH coach, described the 24-year-old as the kind of player they were searching for.
“Nia is a forward,” Viðarsson said. “She comes to us from Fort Lauderdale United, who plays in the American USL league and is a national team player for Bermuda.
“She is exactly the type of forward we were looking for, fast, good at getting into scoring positions and tenacious.”
At the beginning of this month, Christopher was part of Naquita Robinson’s side that played against Costa Rica in a Women’s World Cup qualifier at Flora Duffy Stadium and she could be one of the key players as Bermuda look to end the campaign on a high note at home against Grenada on April 18.
