Do or die for title hopefuls Devonshire Colts
Devonshire Colts find themselves in a must-win situation to keep their title hopes alive against hosts Paget Lions in a rescheduled Premier Division contest at White Hill Field tomorrow (3pm).
Ray Jones’s team have no margin for error as anything short of maximum points will reduce what has been a tight title race all season to a two-horse battle between leaders Dandy Town and second place PHC Zebras.
As is stands, Hornets top the table by three-points over Zebras, who hold a two-point advantage over third place Colts.
Victory for Colts would see them leapfrog Zebras into second and narrow the gap on leaders Hornets to two points to set the stage for an exciting three-horse battle for the championship on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign.
The visitors are the favourites heading into their match away to Paget having gone unbeaten in the previous three league outings, and are coming off an emphatic 5-1 demolition of relegated Boulevard last time out.
As well as attempting to remain in the title hunt, Colts are also gunning for the sweep having edged Lions 1-0 in the previous league clash between the teams at Police Field last month.
Paget, who sit in eighth place and have already retained their top flight status for next season, are attempting to get back to winning ways having been edged 1-0 away to Zebras in their previous outing.
The initial league fixture between the teams at Southampton Oval last November was cancelled after an attempt was made to attack a Paget player during the warm-up.
Since then Southampton Rangers Sports Club has issued bans ranging from two years to life to six identified individuals, one of whom has admitted the offence in court and will be sentenced next month.
Lions also switched their home ground from Southampton Oval to White Hill Field, with club president Jaime Ramsay confirming the move was as a result of the incident at their former venue, when one of their players was chased around the field by six men carrying weapons.
