Nahki Wells marked his return from a hamstring injury by helping Luton Town to a 2-1 win against Sky Bet League One rivals Peterborough United on their own patch at Kenilworth Road on Good Friday.

The Bermuda striker was one of three changes Jack Wilshere made to his starting XI and combined nicely up top with goalscorer Jordan Clark before being replaced by substitute Devante Cole in the 65th minute.

Wells was denied a goal himself in the first half after his attempted lob was grabbed by Posh goalkeeper Alex Bass.

The Hatters started on the front foot and took the lead through Jake Richards’ calm finish in the twentieth minute.

Luton goalkeeper Josh Keeley preserved the home side’s lead just after the half-hour mark when he saved Harry Leonard’s penalty after being adjudged to have brought the latter down in the area.

Wells then went close to extending Luton’s lead shortly after as Luton went into the break clinging to a one-goal advantage.

The Hatters also came out swinging after the restart and were again rewarded when Clark doubled their lead in the 50th minute.

Liam Walsh, Clark and Wells were a constant threat in the attacking third before the latter was replaced.

Peterborough’s Jimmy-Jay Morgan pulled one back 15 minutes from the end to set up a nervy finish, but the Hatters held on for their third win in four matches to move to within four points of the play-off positions.
