Bakari Furbert savours league and cup glory with Young Bees
Bakari Furbert had plenty to celebrate after helping Harborough Town’s Under-21 team to achieve the league and cup double this season.
The Young Bees were crowned United Counties League and UCL Reserves Cup champions, with former Paget midfielder Furbert playing an integral part in the team’s highly successful campaign.
“It’s been an amazing season full of memories and victories and it feels unreal to win a cup and league competition,” Furbert told The Royal Gazette.
“That’s very hard to do in a single season and I’m grateful for the trust my manager Josh Unsworth has in me. Just an unreal experience.”
The Young Bees picked up their first piece of silverware with a 3-1 win over St Ives Reserves in the UCL Reserves Cup Final.
They then clinched the UCL Reserves Division title after coming from behind to edge Desborough Town Reserves 2-1, with Furbert providing an assist and scoring the winner to seal the coveted double.
Harborough Under -21 head coach Unsworth singled out the Bermudian for special praise.
“One player who really stands out this season is Bakari,” he said.
“He’s been an absolute pleasure to work with. From day one, he’s shown a great mindset— always eager to listen, take on feedback and push himself to improve.
“Over the course of the season you can clearly see how much he’s developed, not just in his ability on the pitch, but in his decision-making and maturity as a player. He’s taken on responsibility, stepped up in big moments and set a great example for others in the squad.”
Unsworth said observing Furbert’s progress has been rewarding as a coach.
“It’s exactly what you want to see at this level — players growing, gaining confidence, and starting to realise their potential,” he said.
“Bakari’s performances have played a big part in our success this season and if he continues with the same attitude and work ethic, he’s got a very bright future ahead of him.
“He came to us from Brooke House College, who developed him really well as a player and as a footballer. He learnt his trade there and it’s good to see his progression through from Brooke House now with us at Harborough Town FC.”
