PHC Zebras and BFLA had the most success as the Bermuda Football Association concluded the 2025-26 season with its annual Youth Awards ceremony at Pier Six in Hamilton yesterday.

Zebras and BFLA had six winners each as the future of Bermuda football was recognised in front of a full crowd with legends Wendell Furbert, Earl Richardson and Elliott Jennings presenting the awards.

Outgoing youth committee chair Emmanuel Faria officially handed the torch to new head Jibri Smith, who opened by extending thanks to everyone who made this season possible, notably title sponsor Appleby.

The ceremony opened with a video showing highlights from recent international and domestic competitions.

Keynote speaker Tyrell Burgess, who briefly played professionally for Vancouver Whitecaps in the USL, encouraged the young players to use setbacks to enhance their character, and to envision a return back home as a period of reflection rather than time to give up.

The first set of awards recognised the top scorer from each age group. Kiana Simmons, of BFLA, won the Under-13 girls golden boot, with Azai Burt, of PHC Black, winning the boys award. Devi Samuels, of Warwick, won the combined Under-15 and Under-17 girls crown, with Jeon Wolfe, of FC Bascome, taking the boys title. Kydan Browne, also of FC Bascome, was the most clinical finisher in the Under-18 division.

Goalkeeper of the year honours were won by Phoenix Williams, who took the Under-13 girls title for BFLA Black, with Julian “JJ” Caisey, of PHC Black, winning the boys award. Loyal Outerbridge took the boys Under-15 award, the only X-Roads youngster to triumph on the day, while Kyra Simmons, of BFLA, claimed the girls award. Warwick keeper Curtis Jackson Jr was the Under-18 winner.

Earl Richardson handed out the defender of the year honours, with Chloe Burgess, of BHSFC, and Amori Simons, of PHC Black, taking the Under-13 girls and boys titles respectively. Maria DeSa, of PHC, took the girls Under-15 title, with Nazi Reid-Anderson, of Somerset, grabbing the boys trophy. Zachary McGuire, of FC Bascome, won the Under-18 honour.

Leo Burgess was rewarded for his work at BHS with the Under-13 girls Coach of the Year title, while Robert Bean took the boys award for PHC Black. Somerset’s Vashun Blanchette won the Boys Under-15 award, with Akeem Wolffe, of BFLA, taking the girls honours.

Warwick’s Keishon Smith rounded out the coaching awards with the Under-18 honour.

La Zai Outerbridge (U13), Malachi Jones (U15) and Cecoy Robinson (U18) were recognised for their refereeing excellence in each age group.

Samuels claimed her second title of the day after being named Under-13 girls most valuable player, with PHC Black midfielder Psalm Caines winning the boys honour. Reid-Anderson added to his defensive honour with recognition as MVP of the Under-15 boys. Youth international Priya Dill took the Under-15 girls crown for PHC. Robin Hood senior midfield maestro Sami Carolo took the Under-18 spoils for Warwick.

UPDATE: this article has been amended to correct that Chloe Burgess plays for BHSFC and not BFLA Reds. We apologise for the error, which was caught too late for the print edition
