Dandy Town capped one of their most successful seasons in recent memory after walking away with four Premier Division awards during the Bermuda Football Association’s Senior Awards Ceremony at Pier Six last night.

Head coach Jarreau Hayward, in his first full season at the Hornets’ helm, received the Coach of the Year Award, Jahquil Hill was named Goalkeeper of the Year, LaZai Outerbridge won the Young Player of the Year honour, and David Jones Jr earned the Golden Boot Award.

Hayward could not have asked for a better start to his tenure, having led Town to Premier Division, Friendship Trophy and Charity Cup glory after taking over last year from Kyle Lightbourne, whom he credits for some of the success.

“First I want to thank Kyle because I don’t think I could’ve done what I’ve done this year without last year,” he said.

“With his stature, he came in, settled the locker room and helped to usher me in. So winning and everything that we’ve done this year is just a product of our process and everything that have been working on.

“The standard is really high and I love it. So hats off to the players, hats off to the Dandy Town community, fans and executive.

“It was definitely a team effort so I am really appreciative and thankful for all of them and long may it continue.

“Everybody has bought into it and it truly is a team effort from the youth academy to the senior team.”

Hornets midfielder Outerbridge was happy to come away with the Premier Division’s Young Player of the Year Award.

“It’s always good to win things but to get recognised as a young player, especially young player of the year, I think is a very special thing,” he said.

“This is my first award that I have won in the Premier Division and I am just happy we got coach of the year, goalkeeper of the year and top goalscorer. Maybe we should’ve got a couple more but it’s a good night.”

Hill was equally delighted to be chosen as the Premier Division’s top goalkeeper for the first time.

“My first time winning this award and it’s really special,” he said.

“I played overseas most of my career, so winning this in Bermuda for my fourth season here actually feels great.

“I worked hard this season and Dandy Town gave me the platform to express myself and be a leader in the team throughout the season. Also I took my game to another level from the last couple of years that I have been playing on island.

“It’s just a statement that I am here to set a standard of goalkeeping on the island and move forward from there.”

Hayward believes defenders Yeferson Ramirez and Edry Moore were deserving of the Defender of the Year and Most Valuable Player Awards, which went to Devonshire Colts’ Jorj Dublin and Senoj Mitchell instead.

“I thought we would’ve got a little bit more,” he said.

“I was disappointed with Yeferson not winning the defensive player of the year and Edry not winning the MVP, but that’s not to say the winners didn’t deserve it because they did.”

Mitchell was delighted to come away with MVP honours.

“Happy to get the trophy to make the whole season feel like it meant something,” he said. “I did have a good season, so I am happy to get it.

“Unfortunately the team couldn’t get any trophies, but it’s good that I got something personal.”

The First Division MVP was won by Keishen Bean, while the Coach of the Year award was shared by Danvers Seymour Jr, of Somerset Trojans, and Somerset Eagles’ Troy Smith.

Victoria Davis, from Somerset Lady Trojans, won the female MVP award.
