English and Portuguese flavour in Bermuda Triangle Cup
Seven teams, including two foreign sides, are locked in for this year’s edition of the Bermuda Triangle Cup.
Future Pro Academy, from England, and Sao Miguel, of Portugal, will join local outfits Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School Select, Somerset Trojans, Dandy Town, National Academy under-15 and under-17. The tournament is scheduled for July 19 to 26 at Flora Duffy Stadium.
Future Pro are in three-team group A with Somerset and National Academy Under-17. Group B will feature Sao Miguel, BBFS Select and National Academy Under-15.
Demir Vavan, the Future Pro founder, expressed excitement about bringing his players to Bermuda. Vavan’s elite football and education programme is home to a number of the island’s budding footballers.
“It is a real honour for Future Pro Academy to accept the invitation to compete in the Bermuda Triangle Cup 2026 with our own squad for the very first time,” Vavan said.
“As director of Future Pro Academy, I have spent the last few seasons recruiting and developing a talented group of ambitious young players.
“Bringing them together to represent our academy on an international stage is something we are incredibly proud of.
“Experiences like the Bermuda Triangle Cup are invaluable in preparing young players for the next stage of their careers.
“At Future Pro, we regularly travel across Europe and the United States, exposing our players to different standards, playing styles and environments. Bermuda offers another unique challenge that will push our players both on and off the pitch.
“Professional football is about more than technical ability. Players must adapt quickly, solve problems under pressure, communicate with different people and perform consistently in unfamiliar surroundings.
“It also gives our players the opportunity to experience another football culture while sharing our own.
“We hope to showcase the attacking, positive style of football we play in the UK, while learning from the teams we compete against throughout the tournament.”
Dennis Brown, the Triangle Cup tournament director, believes bringing in Sao Miguel adds a new dimension to the tournament.
“Adding a team from the Azores makes the tournament unique this year,” Brown said.
“All matches will be at Flora Duffy Stadium due to North Field being unavailable. We also have a scout from QPR that will be coming over for the tournament.
“The tournament provides a fantastic opportunity for Bermuda’s best young players to test themselves against quality international opposition, while showcasing their talent in front of local supporters.
“Preliminary matches begin on Monday, July 20, with two matches each evening, making for an exciting week of competitive football.
“The action continues with the semi-finals on Saturday, July 25, before concluding with the third-place match and championship final on Sunday, July 26.
“Admission to all preliminary matches is free, while entry to the semi-finals and finals is just $5, payable at the gate.
“We invite the entire Bermuda community to come out and support our young footballers, enjoy the international atmosphere, and celebrate the future of the game.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone for what promises to be a memorable week of outstanding youth football.”
