A social enterprise whose goal is to improve food security while providing sustainable farming education is inviting the community to celebrate its fifth anniversary.

The AgraLiving Institute is hosting a family-friendly event that is open to all who wish to enjoy an afternoon filled with nature, learning and local creativity.

The Fifth Anniversary Community Day is scheduled to take place on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm at the Education and Research Garden in the Botanical Gardens, next to the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.

The celebration will feature a “lively” vendors’ market, family yoga sessions, guided garden tours and children’s nature activities.

“We’re incredibly proud of the relationships and impact we’ve cultivated over the last five years,” Christopher Faria, AgraLiving’s founder, said.

“This celebration is our way of saying thank you to everyone who has supported, shared and grown with us.

“It’s also an invitation to vision together about what comes next.”

Local vendors at the market will include Yard Farm, which provides seedlings and seeds, Source of Wholeness, which will have herbal remedies and natural products, and Wild Herbs and Plants of Bermuda, which will offer plant-based tasters and treats.

Plant-Based Fuel Bermuda will offer food while and Nature’s Compass/AgraLiving will host a plant sale.

Guests are encouraged to bring cash to support local vendors, along with a reusable cup or water bottle to limit trash, and “a spirit of curiosity and community for an afternoon of connection, learning and good vibes”.

The AgraLiving Institute was founded in 2020 and is dedicated to “empowering individuals and communities in Bermuda to live more sustainably through hands-on education, regenerative agriculture and environmental awareness”.

It runs garden programmes for schools and other organisations as well as community workshops.

AgraLiving uses Grow Biointensive Sustainable Agriculture, a sustainable farming method that enables gardeners to grow food in the smallest of spaces while building soil fertility.

Its website says: “The AgraLiving Institute has been using this method successfully in Bermuda for over 15 years and truly believes that it’s the perfect method for growing food independence on an island with a limited amount of land.”

Those planning to attend the community event are asked to RSVP through the link in AgraLiving’s bio on Instagram or Facebook as it will help the team to prepare for the day. Members of the community can still attend if they do not register.

Two free spots in AgraLiving’s next gardening workshop will be drawn from those who RSVP, with winners announced at Sunday’s celebration.
