Tsunami training exercise to take place tomorrow

Authorities in Bermuda will tomorrow take part in a tsunami training exercise along with some Caribbean countries.

A Government spokeswoman said: “The annual CARIBE WAVE 2021 regional tsunami training exercise will take place tomorrow, March 11.

“As has been an annual occurrence, Bermuda will join other localities in the Caribbean as a participant in a tsunami response training exercise.”

She added: “This year, the training exercise will take place at the executive level and will involve communications between the Bermuda Weather Service and the Emergency Measures Organisation Executive.

“The emergency training exercise will be coordinated by the Ministry of National Security’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Team.

“The purpose of this training exercise is to evaluate local tsunami emergency response plans, increase preparedness, and improve coordination throughout the region.”
