Trash collection delays warning after coronavirus hits staff

Trash collection will be delayed this week because of a shortage of staff caused by Covid-19.

A public works spokesman said staff were being moved around to try and make sure there were enough on the front line to handle waste collection on the designated days.

He added trash trucks will be out later than usual on collection days to keep up with demand.

People were urged to keep trash bagged and secured in bins away from rodents and pets.

Trash can be dropped off at the Tynes Bay incinerator between 7am and 7pm every day.

Christmas trees were picked up over the last two Saturdays.

Any left over will be removed with domestic waste in the next few weeks.

Old trees and other garden waste can be taken to the Marsh Folly composting centre, which is open from 7.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday and from 7.30am until noon on Saturdays.
