A 69-year-old man died after he fell into the water off North Shore yesterday.

The Coastguard, police and an ambulance crew went to Penhurst Park dock in Smith’s after they were alerted by a 911 call just before 12.30pm.

A police spokesman said: “The individual involved, believed to be a 69-year-old Smith’s Parish man, was recovered from the ocean and life-saving efforts commenced, which continued as he was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

“However, sadly, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.”

The spokesman added that the victim would not be identified until after the next of kin were informed.

He said inquiries continued and anyone with information that could help should call 211.
