Workers installing a solar project at the National Sports Centre got a brief dousing this morning when their drill struck a high-pressure water pipe.
The job is part of an ongoing renewable energy launch at the Devonshire facility.
The drilling is to place a solar car port at the Roberts Avenue parking lot, which started last month and is expected to wrap up in November.
Craig Tyrrell, operations manager at the National Sports Centre, said the geyser, caught on a video circulated online, was short-lived.
“They hit a pipe and quickly capped it off,” he said. “It was nothing major.”
Work continued at the site this afternoon, and Mr Tyrrell said the unexpected shower had no impact on operations at the facility.
