Walk to promote theme of ‘End Racism. Build Peace’

A walk for peace will be held next week to mark the United Nations International Day for Peace.

The inaugural X-Roads Peace Games Peace Walk will take place on Wednesday, promoting the theme End Racism. Build Peace.

The walk is being promoted by the Bermuda Committee on Human Fraternity as a way to promote non-violence, peace and social justice through interfaith and non-faith collaboration.

Organisers said the event will also offer the opportunity to explore connections between peace and the economics of solidarity and sustainability.

A spokesman for the group said: “The day corresponds to growing awareness of Bermuda’s delicate social, economic and natural balance and the broad acknowledgement that humanity is at a proverbial crossroads due to increased pressures from natural and man-made disasters.”

There will be entertainment, guest speakers, a community peace walk and a variety of both local and international cuisine, including vegetarian dishes.

Admission is free and participants are encouraged to bring banners that support the crossroads theme as they join the peace walk.

The event will be held at Warrior Park on Harrington Sound Road, Smith’s, from 6pm to 9pm.
