BMA staff roll up their sleeves for island-wide clean-up

The island’s financial regulator gave back to the public and helped to clear litter across Bermuda.

The Bermuda Monetary Authority partnered with Keep Bermuda Beautiful for its first Community Day, which saw 150 authority staff volunteer.

Craig Swan, the BMA’s chief executive officer, said the day was a success and that those who participated “demonstrated their commitment to making a positive impact by rolling up their sleeves and cleaning up Bermuda’s shoreline”.

He added: “We are pleased to have the opportunity to engage and work alongside KBB in this coastal clean-up aligned with our dedication and continued effort to further integrate environmental social governance and sustainability into our jurisdiction’s regulatory frameworks and daily operations.”

Authority volunteers targeted nine beaches including Jobson’s Cove and Chaplin Bay.

Mesheiah Crockwell, the BMA’s director of human resources, said: “We are pleased with the overwhelming response of staff members who participated in our first Community Clean Up Day.

“I am very proud of what we accomplished, improving our environment and community spaces in Bermuda.”

Traci Burgess, the executive director of KBB, thanked the authority’s contribution which, she said, had a “tremendous impact across the island”.
