Island records ninth road fatality of year after senior dies in crash

A 68-year-old man died after a single vehicle car crash in the early hours yesterday.

Just after 4am, police received a report of an incident east of the junction of Watch Hill and South Road in Smith’s.

Shortly after they arrived they found an unresponsive male in the driver’s seat. The vehicle was facing west and was in the east bound lane of South Road, partially off the roadway.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said: “Officers performed CPR until EMTs arrived at the scene and took over.

“The man remained unresponsive however and was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“The scene was processed by forensics officers along with Traffic Collision Investigators.”

This marks the ninth road fatality of 2022.

No further information will be provided until the next of kin has been informed.
