A German tall ship is back berthed on Front Street – almost a year after its last visit to the island.

The three-masted sail-training vessel Alexander Humboldt II, nicknamed Alex, is 65 metres long.

The vessel, which is operated by the German Sail Training Federation, was launched in 2011 to replace the original Alexander Humboldt and also visited the island in 2017 as part of a tall ships regatta.

She carries up to 55 trainees and has 24 permanent crew members.
