Holy Trinity Church in Bailey’s Bay will mark its 400th anniversary with an exhibition hosted by the Society of Arts at City Hall.

The exhibition, entitled T400EX, traces the history of the church from 1623 to the present day and opens tomorrow.

Canon John Stow, the Rector of Holy Trinity, said: “This is a fascinating celebration of the history of a parish church and of life in Bermuda over four centuries, newly probed and illustrated, with beautiful works of art and poetry inspired by the church.”

The exhibition, which has been three years in the making, is curated by artist Vaughan Evans, with input from a host of contributors and guidance from Bermudian Kristy Warren, senior lecturer in Black history at Lincoln University.

On display are artworks, some privately owned and rarely seen until now, and others loaned by the Bermuda National Trust and by Masterworks. Paintings of Holy Trinity Church by Bermuda’s Plein Air Group will be on sale.

Timelines covering more than four centuries give vivid, candid details of Bermuda’s social context gleaned from historical sources and from the living memory of those who have shaped Bermuda’s social history over the past 50 years.

T400EX will run until April 25 on Mondays to Fridays from 10am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
