Public servants helping to tackle elder abuse have been recognised for their efforts.

The Ministry of Social Development and Seniors’ Ageing and Disability Services team has been awarded the June public service excellence award.

They were recognised for “their commitment to providing quality services to Bermuda's vulnerable populations, specifically seniors and persons with disabilities”.

The team was praised for organising an event to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day which catered for more than 100 people.

David Burt said: “The ADS team has been a tremendous asset to Bermuda, ensuring that our seniors and persons with disabilities can access the best possible advice and information regarding their safety in this ever-changing society.”

The Premier added: “Their dedication to staying informed of global trends and guiding clients and the public on key issues has been invaluable, and I thank them for their service to Bermuda's vulnerable population.”

Derrick Binns, head of the Public Service, said: “On behalf of the public service executive, I would like to congratulate the ADS team on the success of this very important initiative.”

Dr Binns added: “We are proud to have them as champions for public service, and I thank them for their hard work and commitment to making Bermuda a better place for all our citizens.”

The ADS team consists of Keeona Belboda, Sarah D'Allesio, Shayna Smith, Robyn Kelly, Rokeyah Brown, Alicia Martinez, and Jackie Bennett.
