Applications are being accepted for the recently expanded child daycare allowance programme.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, said: “Protecting early childhood education is vital for individuals' lifelong wellbeing and the sustainability of our economy.

“I am happy to advise that applications for the new and improved child daycare allowance are now available for collection from the Department of Financial Assistance.”

Under amendments set to come into effect on October 1, a household with annual gross income of $65,000 or less may qualify for up to $900 per month per child.

Those with an annual gross household income of $65,001 to $97,000 can be eligible for a maximum monthly allowance of $700 per child, while those with an annual gross household income under $130,000 may be eligible for up to $500 per child.

The Government has said the changes to the benefit are intended to help households cope with the rising cost of daycare.

Mr Hayward added: “Ensuring families have access to childcare is critical as it allows children to develop the social, emotional and cognitive skills required for success at the primary school level and beyond.”

Application packages are available now at the Department of Financial Assistance in Global House.
