Recruitment drive for prison officers starts

The Department of Corrections has started a recruitment campaign to help bolster staffing at the island’s prisons.

The Ministry of National Security said in a statement that they are looking for dedicated and passionate Bermudians focused on upholding security, safety and contributing to community welfare to apply before January 3.

Owen Darrell, the Acting Minister of National Security, said: “Joining the Department of Corrections presents an incredible chance to serve our community and promote security, safety and rehabilitation within our Island.

"We encourage aspiring candidates to explore this fulfilling career path that plays a pivotal role in shaping a secure and supportive Bermuda."

Successful applicants will undergo a 12-week curriculum encompassing all the elements necessary for success and competency in their future roles.

The course includes instruction on pertinent legislation, such as the Prison Act 1979, the Criminal Code Amendment Act 2001, training in the use of force, and other legal statutes.

Keeva Joell-Benjamin, the Commissioner of Corrections, said: “Bermuda needs dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact.

"Becoming a corrections officer is not just a job. It's an opportunity to contribute to the betterment of our society, ensuring the security, safety and rehabilitation of those within our care.
