Charity takes on greater accreditation responsibilities
The Non-Profit Alliance of Bermuda will take on additional accreditation responsibilities for charities and social services this month.
An NAB spokeswoman said that the organisation would manage and administer accreditation and certification for the Bermuda National Standards Committee Standards of Excellence.
The spokeswoman said that the “strategic alignment” would allow for better synergies and efficiencies in service delivery.
Bonnie Claggett, chairwoman of the BNSC board of directors, said: “The purpose of the BNSC since its inception has been to advocate for excellence and trust within our community services by promoting best practice standards of service delivery.
“This new direction will ensure this important work not only continues but is elevated.”
Nicola Paugh, the executive director of the NAB, added: “We strongly believe in the pivotal role that accreditation plays in establishing and promoting best practices.
“A robust accreditation system has such exciting potential for enhancing the effectiveness and impact of Bermuda’s non-profit and social services.
“We are excited to lead the BNSC into this new chapter.”
The BNSC was founded in 2005 and began as a collaborative effort between the Government, non-profit organisations, donors and community members dedicated to upholding internationally recognised standards.
The NAB said that since it launched, the BNSC had evolved into an entity that certified and accredited more than 30 non-profits and government departments, while the NAB has expanded its infrastructure to better support Bermuda’s non-profit sector.
It added that certification and accreditation would be led by Aria Bean, the NAB’s new director of operations.
Dr Bean said: “I am thrilled to contribute to an organisation that plays a pivotal role in enhancing the capabilities and standards of the non-profit sector in Bermuda.
“I look forward to driving meaningful change and fostering sustainable progress in leading the BNSC certification and accreditation services for Bermuda.
“I have witnessed first hand the value these standards play in ensuring high-quality service provision to our community.”
The NAB said that more details about the roll-out of services would be released over the next two months while the NAB worked to bolster its technological infrastructure to streamline the certification and accreditation review process.
