Crawling crabs film part of BUEI children’s event

The “crafty” world of crabs will be featured in a children’s event at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Saturday.

Kids Hour at the BUEI, which is sponsored by BF&M, will run at 11am and at 2pm.

The event is held on the third Saturday of each month from January to September.

A different ocean-themed topic is highlighted each month and the session includes a short film, book reading and fun activities for children aged 3 and up.

This month, the BUEI will screen the short films The Crabs Go Crawling, which features Chloe The Crab and her friends, and 100 Million Red Crabs On A Tropical Island, which documents the biggest crab migration in the world.

This is Crab, a book by Harriet Evans and Jacqui Lee, will colourfully illustrate interactive storytelling to engage readers as they are introduced to ocean wildlife.

Activities include a crab I-spy game, decorating a crab shell and role playing with characters such as the Decorator Crab character in the featured book.

Kids Hour Saturdays are free for BUEI members and $5 per child for non-members. The cost includes admission to the Ocean Discovery Centre.

Parents and caregivers must remain on site and supervise their children at all times.

The event next month, on June 21, will explore the “pointy world of puffer fish”.

Space is limited for the event this weekend and advance registration was encouraged by e-mailing giftshop@buei.bm or by calling 294-0204.
