The former interim chief executive of the Bermuda Tourism Authority is to be honoured alongside four other Bermudians on Bermuda Day.

The Department of Culture has appointed Glenn Jones as a grand marshal for the parade based on his decades in the media and tourism industries.

Mr Jones was press secretary for Ewart Brown, the former premier, and served temporarily in the top role at the BTA from March 2020 to March 2021.

He became a television anchor for NBC 10 in Boston in 2021 and was named one of Boston’s Most Influential Men of Colour in 2023.

A government statement said: “His esteemed career has set him apart, locally and abroad, as a professional of immense accomplishments who balances personal ambition with strengthening communities and the social advancement of others.”

“Bermuda Kite Master” Eugene O’Connor Sr, technology trailblazer Coral Wells, aspiring lawyer McKenzie-Kohl Tuckett and performing artist Seldon Woolridge will also join the parade on Friday as grand marshals.

Mr O’Connor, 90, started making Bermuda kites when he was 7 and now crafts more than 1,000 every Easter.

His son, Dennie, was a grand marshal during last year’s Bermuda Day celebrations.

The statement added: “His life work and passion not only celebrates the art of kite making but also embodies the spirit of innovation, tradition and cultural preservation.”

Ms Wells is founder and chief executive of ConnecTech Coding, which has introduced more than 6,000 children to coding, gaming and robotics skills since its 2015 inception.

She was named the 2021 Woman of the Year, the 2023 BermudaTech Trailblazer of the Year and received several other accolades.

The statement said: “Her pivotal role in shaping the technological landscape of Bermuda positions her as a key figure in driving the island's future towards an era where tech education and equal opportunities are at the forefront.”

Ms Tuckett, a former head girl at Warwick Academy, was Bermuda’s first youth premier to speak in the British House of Commons.

The 21-year-old is a member of the National Youth Policy working group, assistant director of Future Leaders Bermuda and is pursuing a law degree from the University of Bristol.

Mr Woolridge works for the Bermuda Monetary Authority, is director of Carnival band Nova Mas International and cofounded performing arts charity Troika Bermuda in 2009.

The statement said: “Mr Woolridge’s dedication to advancing the arts and enhancing community life has made him a prominent champion for using arts as a means for social improvement and unity.”’
