Fundraising through communal handiwork returns for its thirteenth year this Saturday as the Bermuda Guild of Stitchery gathers for “needlework, creativity and giving back”.

The non-profit group will hold its annual Stitch-A-Thon and charity sale on Saturday from 10am to 3pm at the First Baptist Church on Middle Road in Devonshire.

The tradition, in which sponsored members will stitch for up to 12 hours, will support the church’s soup kitchen, which serves more than 100 hot meals every Wednesday evening to people in need.

Plants and handcrafted creations are also up for purchase at the guild’s second charity sale, with proceeds going towards Amber’s Wings, which offers animal-assisted therapy for young people.

The Bermuda Guild of Stitchery, founded in 1994, is dedicated to the art of embroidery and welcomes new members year-round. Annual membership is $55 and comes with regular meetings and workshops.

Shina Lyons, the group’s president, said the art form went beyond decoration to make a tangible difference for others.

She added: “Not only are we raising funds for vital community services, but stitching together brings joy, connection and a sense of purpose to everyone involved.

“It’s uplifting to be part of something creative that also gives back. Every stitch carries meaning, and every dollar raised helps someone in our community.”
