Third-sector coalition launches non-profit spotlight series
A coalition of non-profit organisations has launched a yearlong collaborative campaign to shine a light on the accomplishments of charities.
The Non-Profit Alliance of Bermuda aims to use the Third Sector Spotlight Series to explore the strengths and innovations charitable organisations bring to bear as they weather challenges and help Bermuda.
A weekly series of articles begins today with the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute invited to tell its story.
Nicola Paugh, the executive director of the NAB, said: “For too long, the public strictly hears about non-profits when we’re in crisis.
“This campaign is our sector’s collective effort to change that — by telling stories of impact, innovation and hope that happen every day, often quietly, in our communities.”
The alliance will share the goals, services and outcomes of specific non-profits over various platforms.
The campaign, which starts this month, will spotlight groups working in youth development, mental health support, cultural heritage and social justice.
From restoring the island’s historic forts to improving access to education and promoting environmental sustainability, the success stories will be developed by the organisations themselves with the help of the Non-Profit Alliance, the aim being to report on the breadth and depth of the third sector.
A spokeswoman for the NAB said that the Third Sector Spotlight was intended to build public trust and keep people informed about the key roles non-profits play.
Priya Suagh, the alliance’s managing director of niche communications, added: “Non-profits are doing some of the most essential and transformative work in our communities, but most simply do not have the marketing capacity to tell that story.
“This campaign hopes to bridge that gap — because when the public understands the value and impact of the third sector, we all benefit.”
The NAB said its campaign “places a strong emphasis on ethical storytelling — encouraging participating non-profits to promote authentic representation and the voices and experiences of those they serve”.
