A Bermudian took to the catwalk to model clothes for Vogue Runway for the second time last month.

Minaya Wainwright, who graduated recently from Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia with a degree in painting, was given the modelling opportunity through the college’s fashion department.

She appeared on the Vogue online platform, which showcases fashion shows around the world, offered by the monthly fashion giant that has a circulation of more than 1.2 million.

She explained: “You audition to be selected to work with the senior fashion majors for the year and then are reselected to take part in the fashion show at the end of the year.”

The 21-year-old has worked with the SCAD fashion department for the past three years and participated in its annual show twice.

She said: “The best part about being a model is the connections you make with people.

“I’ve had a lot of fun getting to see how other creative majors work and meeting new people.

“I think any collaboration with other disciplines in the arts changes how you approach your own practice and creates new perspectives.”

Ms Wainwright will be teaching at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art summer camp and hopes to earn a master’s degree in art therapy.

She told aspiring artists and models: “Never be afraid to enter rooms you’ve never been in.

“Put yourself out there, believe in yourself and always enjoy the experience.”
