King’s Birthday Honours recipients revealed

Seven people have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, was appointed a Companion of The Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George.

Mr Murdoch was saluted for his services to British foreign policy.

His tenure included the role of legal director at the Foreign Office.

Mr Murdoch joined the Royal Navy in 1990 and in 2000 was Called to the Bar, completing naval legal and operational roles, including deployment overseas.

He served as the International Law Head in the Directorate of Naval Legal Services, before joining the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2011.

His experience includes law of the sea, ocean policy, climate change, national security, sanctions, international criminal law and development issues.

He headed the delegation to the International Criminal Court, chaired the Britain national committee on International Humanitarian Law and has been involved in multiple international negotiations.

Mr Murdoch said: “I'm incredibly honoured to be appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George.

“It was such a wonderful surprise to be told — I'm very grateful to all those that have supported me throughout my career, including my family, without whom this would not have been possible.”

Margaret Lloyd was appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her services to architectural heritage in Bermuda.

She studied at Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Oxford University, and Bermuda College, developing a passion for protecting the island’s built heritage.

Ms Lloyd is a veteran volunteer with the Bermuda National Trust and helped with an extensive survey of the island’s historic buildings and monuments.

That research was published in a series of books bout Bermuda’s parishes.

Ms Lloyd helped with the proofs and carried out the administrative work around the publications.

She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bermuda Arts Council this year and two Silver Palmetto Awards from the Bermuda National Trust in 1992 and 2024 for her invaluable contributions to historical documentation.

Beyond Bermuda, she has volunteered in Seychelles, Fiji, Hong Kong, and Cayman, as well as in Africa, where she worked with the Department of Education and the East African Agriculture and Forestry Research Organisation.

The list came also with five King’s Certificates and Badges of Honour.

Dudley Cottingham was awarded for services to Bermuda’s charitable sector.

Mr Cottingham’s roles include serving as president of the Hamilton Lions Club, which has heavily backed the charity Vision Bermuda.

His involvement with Vision Bermuda dates to 1998 when he was zone chair of the Lions Club.

Between 2020 and 2024, he chaired the capital campaign committee that raised $1.5 million for the full renovation of Beacon House, Vision Bermuda’s headquarters.

He is a founding member and has been a director of Aurum Fund Management Ltd. since 1994, and was a principal of the Arthur Morris Group of Companies for 40 years until 2018.

He served also on the Freemasons Fund of Bermuda, and at WindReach.

David Sabir was recognised for services to sport in Bermuda.

Mr Sabir is the general secretary of the Bermuda Football Association, having served the body since 1993.

The Howard University graduate has played a crucial role in developing football governance in Bermuda under Fifa standards.

Mr Sabir has been involved with the Bermuda Olympic Association, the Bermuda Bicycle Association and has provided strategic development support to various sporting organisations.

He has been recognised for his dedication to excellence and integrity.

In March, Mr Sabir was presented with the Special Achievement Award for football by the BFA, celebrating his unparalleled dedication to Bermuda's sports legacy.

The BFA said his unique contributions have left an indelible mark on the sport.

Juliana Snelling was awarded for services to the community.

A Rhodes Scholar, seasoned barrister and attorney, Ms Snelling’s contributions extend beyond her legal practice.

She founded The Grateful Bread, providing meals and essential resources to people in need, and Support Public Schools, Bermuda.

Ms Snelling has been the driving force behind these organisations since inception.

Beneficiaries of her programmes number in the hundreds, through meals, supplies, financial assistance or educational support.

From before the pandemic through the height of the lockdowns and beyond, Ms Snelling has served Bermuda’s vulnerable population.

Kathy-Ann Swan was also awarded for services to the community — especially in the field of healthcare education.

Ms Swan, who served the island for more than three decades as a nurse, was hailed in 2015 as Nurse of the Year.

She played a pivotal role in launching Bermuda’s first Emergency Medical Technician programme, a collaborative effort between the Bermuda College, the Bermuda Hospitals Board and the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

She serves as Director of Nursing and Allied Health at the Bermuda College, where she developed healthcare programmes and the island’s first simulation laboratory.

Ms Swan has held key roles at the Bermuda Hospitals Board and Westmeath Residential and Nursing Care Home.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Ms Swan enjoys cooking, baking and travelling.

Seldon Woolridge was recognised for services to the arts.

Mr Woolridge works as a principal in AML/ATF risk analytics and policy for the Bermuda Monetary Authority.

He is director of Carnival band Nova Mas International, which blends cultural celebration with strategic financial planning.

He cofounded the performing arts charity Troika Bermuda in 2009, which has hosted more than 100 young people since its inception.

Mr Woolridge has nurtured local talent and produced acclaimed theatrical productions, using the arts as a platform for education and community engagement.

Having started his journey in the Youth to Youth Programme, Mr Woolridge is committed to enriching Bermuda’s artistic, financial, and social sectors, ensuring the island continues to thrive through innovation and creativity.
