Residents have been invited to share stories at a Human Library event in September.

The Bermuda National Library is hosting the gathering in partnership with WalkTogetherBermuda, Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda, the Department of Culture and the Human Rights Commission.

Human Library, an international movement, challenges stereotypes, breaks down barriers and foster empathy through one-on-one or small group conversations.

A government spokesman said that, instead of reading pages, participants are given an opportunity to interact with “living books” who share their real-life stories, perspectives and experiences.

“This is an opportunity for Bermudians to connect through a shared humanity and open dialogue,” a spokeswoman for the BNL said.

“We are seeking diverse voices and stories — of resilience, identity, change and lived experience — that help us understand one another better,” she added.

Previous participants said the event was deeply meaningful and one noted that the library felt like a safe place to share a story.

To learn more, the public is invited to attend one of two information sessions at the Bermuda National Library in Hamilton on June 25 from noon to 1pm and 1pm to 2pm.
