Beloved broadcaster: Grennell Joan Bassett Harris (File photograph)

A Bermudian broadcasting icon who died in 2020 will be remembered this month for her trailblazing work in the industry.

Grennell Joan Bassett Harris became affectionately known to many on the island as “Auntie Nell” as the host of children’s show Junior Club on ZBM.

A former teacher at Central School, Pembroke, now Victor Scott Primary School, she went on to work as a broadcaster and actress in the US after establishing herself on the airwaves in Bermuda.

She worked for a decade as national director of public affairs at NBC, and was also a voice coach for executives and politicians at home and abroad.

Ms Bassett Harris will be remembered by her daughters Roxanne, Penelope and Tiffani in a celebration of her life planned for this Saturday at St James Church Hall in Somerset, from 11am to 1pm.
