A Bermudian student who capped a place on the Boston Celtics dance team was heartened by the response of locals to a dance series she hosted on the island this month.

Soleil Richardson hosted a dynamic line-up of classes in hip-hop, jazz funk and contemporary genres over the past two weeks at In Motion School of Dance in Hamilton.

The classes were aimed at skilled dancers who wished to elevate their craft and share space with like-minded future professionals.

Ms Richardson said when she announced the event on social media, she received an overwhelming number of responses.

The jazz funk class on June 11 “was fabulous”, she said, and she noted that the contemporary class on Wednesday drew more participants.

Eight participants joined that class, and Ms Richardson added: “It was really exciting to see how the number has grown.”

She said 15 participants signed up for the open level hip-hop class today.

Ms Richardson said: “It is kind of wild and crazy to see the growth and that’s been really exciting.

“I’ve just been getting a lot of good feedback about the styles, which people haven’t done much before.

“The reception has been great and very nice to see.”

Ms Richardson said she plans to hold a few dance classes in future on the island including classes for adults and young people.

She will travel to the US soon to perform in Los Angeles at the KCON LA dance festival in July.

She said she received the opportunity through her school, which will perform the opening act at the K-pop event.
