Community ‘eager’ to help drive down cost of living
Live streams will allow more people to watch as the Government’s cost of living summit takes place tomorrow after “overwhelming interest” meant that the event reached its attendance capacity.
The Ministry of Home Affairs advised last night that registration for the day of discussions at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club was closed.
It added: “The summit, scheduled for June 25, has reached capacity following overwhelming interest from community leaders, industry stakeholders, government policymakers and residents.
“To ensure that as many people as possible can engage in the event throughout the day, the ministry is pleased to advise that the cost of living summit will be streamed live via the Government’s CITV YouTube channel and the Government of Bermuda’s Facebook Page.”
Opening remarks will be delivered by Alexa Lightbourne, the home affairs minister, at 9am.
They will be followed by a series of panel discussions aimed at exploring ways to make housing, utilities and food more affordable.
Ms Lightbourne thanked the public for their interest and said she was encouraged by the overwhelming response.
She added: “It’s a clear sign that the community is eager and ready to engage in solution-based dialogue around an issue that affects us all.
“On Wednesday, we will bring together key stakeholders and the public for a focused conversation on addressing Bermuda’s cost of living challenges.
“This forum is a commitment from the Government to listen and to act in partnership with the community and private sector.
“This forms the first phase of the ministry’s approach to addressing the cost of living.
“At the end of the summit, we will take the feedback received and determine the next steps to a more affordable Bermuda.
“We are pleased with the engagement and the feedback we have received and look forward to welcoming attendees at the cost of living summit on Wednesday.
“I'd also like to thank all the summit participants and those that has worked to pull this event together.”

The ministry added: “There, the public can see the scheduled agenda of events planned on Wednesday, as well as participate in a series of public online surveys which will be featured throughout the day.”
