Branch parties at HSBC Bermuda locations will be added to the line-up of Cup Match-related events as the bank will once again be lead sponsor for the Annual Classic.

A motorcade will also return to the streets of Hamilton, where snowballs, popcorn and flags will be distributed.

Tanya Bule, HSBC Bermuda’s head of international wealth, personal banking and marketing, said: “The bank’s relationship with Cup Match over the past 18 years is one that we truly value.

“Beginning weeks before the actual two-day event, employees busily prepare for what always proves to be one of Bermuda’s most exciting, sporting highlights of the year.

“Apart from being a great opportunity for the island to come together, Cup Match continues to provide HSBC Bermuda and our employees with unique ways in which to connect with our culture, recognise our heritage and give back to our community.

“Our efforts in the many activities we engage as lead sponsor only equal the enjoyment we get out of the event.”

HSBC said that the branch parties will join “old favourites that the public have come to expect” on the schedule of activities.

The first event will be at the bank’s Somerset location on July 28 from midday, when DJ Jugglin J will add to the celebratory atmosphere.

On July 29, the festivities will be at the St George’s branch from midday with DJ Markie T.

They move to the Harbourview branch in Hamilton the following day, where DJ Fresh Kidd will provide extra entertainment.

Snowballs, Glam Pop popcorn and Cup Match flags will be handed out at each of the three locations.

HSBC said: “Flags will also be given out in various locations throughout Hamilton during the HSBC Cup Match Motorcade.

“The motorcade will start at midday and circle Hamilton twice, giving the public the opportunity to engage with employee volunteers on the route as they distribute the giveaways.

“Joining us on the motorcade will be DJ iBreeze.”

Mishael Paynter, the St George’s Cricket Club president, thanked the bank for its continued support.

He added: “We hope this holiday can help bring the people of Bermuda together as we look forward to two days of expression, collaboration, celebration and good cricket.”

Richard Scott, the president of Somerset Cricket Club, echoed the thanks.

He said: “We encourage everyone near and far, the young and the not as young, to head on out to Wellington Oval for two exciting days of cricket and, of course, to partake in the festivities as we celebrate Cup Match, our local tradition like no other.

“This iconic, historic and prestigious event is indeed a culmination, a celebration and the recognition of the Emancipation from slavery.”

Greg Garnier, HSBC Bermuda’s chief executive added: “Our longstanding association with Cup Match and the activities we engage in, both leading up to and during the two-day event, enable us show appreciation to our customers and employees, as the community comes together.

“It is also an opportunity to not only acknowledge important dates in Bermuda’s history but also spend quality time with friends and family, either at the game in St George’s or however else we choose.

“On behalf of HSBC Bermuda, we wish everyone a great and safe Cup Match and as always, it should go without saying, may the best team win.”
