Hundreds of properties in the West End lost power this morning after problems with overhead and underground systems.

Shelly Leman, the manager of transmission, distribution and retail at Belco, said that the company was notified of an outage near Boaz Island, Sandys, at about 3am.

She explained: “Belco crews were dispatched and found blown fuses and a damaged jumper at a pole with both overhead and underground infrastructure.”

About 650 customers were affected by the outage and all but two had electricity restored by 5.30am. Power was fully returned to the area by 6.30am.

Ms Leman added that another customer reported an outage near Rosemont Avenue yesterday after a palm frond fell on the overhead network.

She said: “This serves as a reminder to monitor vegetation growth on your properties as we kick off the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.”
