Endeavour celebrates ten-year anniversary
A sailing charity has worked with more than 8,000 Bermudian students since its formation ten years ago.
A statement said Endeavour has “grown from a pilot programme into a national initiative that reaches every 11 to 12-year-old student across the island with its five-day science, technology, engineering, arts and maths education through sailing experience”.
The organisation also trains young people in maritime careers and provides leadership development for teenagers.
Its “No Limits” sailing programme works with students between the ages of 5 and 18 who have autism or developmental challenges.
Jennifer Pitcher, Endeavour executive director, explained: “Our hands-on learning programmes give young people of all backgrounds and abilities the chance to learn by doing — building confidence, life skills and meaningful connections with their environment and community.
“Over the past decade, we’ve watched thousands of young people discover new strengths, develop new interests and form lasting friendships.”
Endeavour students participated in the Bermuda Day Parade, Harbour Nights and Keep Bermuda Beautiful’s coastal clean-up to celebrate the milestone.
Ms Pitcher added: “When young people are given opportunity, encouragement and the right tools, they thrive.
“We’re incredibly proud of our impact and deeply grateful to the educators, donors, partners, supporters, youth participants and their families who make it possible.”
Tom Miller, the chairman of Endeavour’s board, said: “As Endeavour looks ahead, we remain committed to providing equitable access to opportunities that empower Bermuda’s youth, on the water and beyond.”
