Vision Bermuda gets $25,000 boost from Green family
The Green family have donated $25,000 to a charity that supports people in Bermuda who are blind or visually impaired.
The owners of the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club said they were pleased to support Vision Bermuda, which has been serving the island since 1957.
A representative of the Greens said: “As a family, we believe in lifting others up, and Vision Bermuda gives people with vision impairment the tools to live well, despite exceptionalities.”
Erica Ingemann, the executive director of Vision Bermuda, quoted Helen Keller, the disability rights advocate, who said: “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much”.
Ms Ingemann thanked the Green family for their “incredibly generous” support.
She said: “Your kindness is so much more than a donation — it is a meaningful investment in the independence, dignity and confidence of those living with vision loss in our community.
“This remarkable gift from the Green family is a true testament to the impact that compassionate collaboration can achieve.”
The donation will support Vision Bermuda’s programmes and services including vision rehabilitation therapy, orientation and mobility training, assistive technology and equipment information training, public education to promote awareness, good vision care and weekly social activities.
Vision Bermuda transitioned from operating a traditional sheltered workshop to providing comprehensive vision rehabilitation services.
The move aimed to promote independence, inclusion and equal opportunity for its clients.
A spokeswoman for the charity added: “This evolution marked a significant step in aligning Vision Bermuda’s services with international best practices and the rights of persons with disabilities.”
