Hundreds affected by power outage in Warwick
More than 3,000 properties in the West End were without power this afternoon, according to electricity provider Belco.
Power was later restored for many customers but more than 500 were still without electricity at 6pm.
An outage map on the company’s website showed that 550 Warwick customers remained affected.
According to the map, repair crews were on site from 2pm, although an estimated restoration time was not provided.
Shelly Leman, the managing director of Belco, said the outage happened during planned maintenance work in Paget when two circuits tripped.
In a statement issued shortly after 6pm, Ms Leman said: “Belco crews immediately commenced efforts to locate the source of the fault while back-feeding sections of the circuits to bring customers back on to supply.
“Approximately half of the customers had power restored within an hour, with several hundred brought back online shortly thereafter.
“At this time, crews remain on site working to restore power to the remaining 550 customers in the Khyber Pass area as quickly and safely as possible.
“We thank you for your patience as our team works to restore every customer.”
Updates on outages are available on Belco’s website and social-media pages.
Hundreds of properties in Sandys went without power for several hours on Friday as a result of blown fuses and a damaged jumper.
To report an outage to Belco, customers should call 955.
