Fun and sun at family-friendly event
Victoria Park was full of fun and festivities this afternoon with families enjoying the City of Hamilton’s annual summer event.
There were gigantic bouncy castles, water slides, games and activities, as well as live entertainment and food vendors.
Bermy Stride, an electrical bike beginners’ course for children as young was 2, had an inflatable track set up at the entrance.
Kenika Dill, who owns the company with Jamel Thompson, said there had been a steady flow of people coming through despite the hot weather.
She said: “We run an early entrance riding programme which teaches classes for riding electric strider bikes. They learn how to use a throttle, braking, turning, balance — a lot of the skills you need for riding regular motorcycles.
“It’s been steady so far, a lot of people will probably come later when it's not so hot.”
Sloane Johnson was walking around the park with her husband, Edmond, and their 3-year-old daughter Ryu, enjoying the sites and sounds.
Mrs Johnson said: “It’s really nice, this is a really good community event that brings everyone together. There’s a lot going on, you have the fun castles, the games, the food vendors and the entertainment.
“There’s a little bit of something for everybody. My daughter is having a blast.”
A large tent housed a variety of games from ring toss and tic-tac-toe to frog hop and skee ball.
Samaria Tatem was manning the skee ball game that invites contestants to throw a ball into targets with different values.
She said: “It has been really busy today. Everyone seems to be loving it and I love that everyone is having a good time, especially the children.”
Ed Christopher, the town crier for Hamilton, was MC for the line-up of entertainment.
He said: “The flow has been real good. People were in early, especially in the kid zones. People are really enjoying themselves, it has been great considering the heat.
“We have had Tino Martinez on stage, we’re going to have Desta Zion, we have the St George’s Dancerettes going on right now. Everybody is moving around, people are not just sitting. There is so much to see, especially all the free games going on.”
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda was preparing to host its sixth fundraising event, How Much Would You Pay To See Me …? where local celebrities and community members are paid to do outrageous dares for charity.
