Two women have sustained head injuries in a serious collision in the early hours of this morning.

At about 2.15am, police and first responders were dispatched to the incident involving two cars near the junction of South Road and Church Road in Southampton.

One of the women was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters.

A spokeswoman for the Bermuda Police Service said: “The vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when they collided head-on.

“The drivers, both female, sustained head injuries and were attended to at the scene by Emergency Medical Services personnel, before being transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

“The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

“One of the drivers became trapped inside her vehicle and had to be extricated by Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.”

The road remained closed to vehicular traffic while the scene was forensically processed but has since been reopened.

The spokesman added: “Motorists are urged to exercise caution when going through the area, as despite efforts to clear the road surface of oil, it may still be somewhat slick.”

An investigation into the collision has begun. Witnesses, or anyone with information about the incident, are asked to call Police Constable Tashun Simons on 515-2566, e-mail tsimons@bps.bm or call the main police number, 295-0011.
