Michael Weeks meets Turks & Caicos Islands Regiment
The Minister of National Security welcomed senior officials from the Turks & Caicos Islands to Bermuda as the TCI Regiment’s recruits trained with local soldiers.
Michael Weeks visited Warwick Camp to meet Tito Lightbourne, the Turks & Caicos Islands Permanent Secretary of National Security, and Lieutenant-Colonel Ennis Grant, the Commanding Officer for the TCI Regiment.
Mr Weeks was joined by Tarita Cartwright, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security in Bermuda.
The meeting coincided with the second week of a foundational training camp held by the Royal Bermuda Regiment alongside the TCI Regiment.
Mr Weeks said it was an “absolute pleasure” to meet “our brothers and sisters” from the Turks & Caicos Islands.
He added: “There is something special about seeing our two territories working together as island territories and as an extended family.
“We share a common history, we face similar challenges and we have always looked out for each other when it counts.”
The TCI Regiment was created in 2020 to address regional and national emergencies, including disaster relief and border protection.
Since its creation, the regiment has worked alongside the RBR for guidance and growth.
Mr Weeks said: “I want to commend the leadership of the TCI Regiment and all the young marines here training hard.
“What they are doing is more than drills and discipline — it is about building something for the future.
“They are gaining skills that will protect lives, support communities and serve their country with pride.”
