Emergency services practise procedures ahead of Cup Match
A run-through of emergency responses was carried out by agencies in preparation for the Cup Match holiday.
The tabletop exercise, co-ordinated by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Team, put government and private sector organisations through realistic scenarios.
It aimed to test the co-ordination, communication and readiness of response teams in the face of potential events.
Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, commended the agencies on their successful tests.
He said: “This training is another example of our commitment to putting safety first.
“Cup Match is a cherished holiday that brings the entire country together.
“Our preparedness efforts will help ensure the celebrations remain safe, enjoyable and secure for everyone in attendance.
“I thank all participating agencies for their continued professionalism and teamwork.”
The tabletop exercise included police, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service, St John Ambulance and the Royal Bermuda Regiment.
The Joint Agency Command Centre, which will operate on-site during the Annual Classic, made up a key focus of the exercise.
It will monitor real-time developments and allow for swift decision-making when necessary.
Cup Match will take place on July 31 and August 1, with the games being held at St George’s Cricket Club.
